Misty Copeland is the third African-American female soloist. She totally redefined ballerinas being tall and lean because she is very muscular and only 5'2. Misty took her first ballet class at the age of 13 and has starred in many outstanding performances.
Gene Kelly was a dancer, actor, singer, film director, producer and choreographer. His dances were mainly inspired by the common day of a regular man. He is most famous for his performance of Singin' in the rain. Martha Graham was a modern dancer and choreographer. She is considered by many as the mother of modern dance. She studied dance in Los Angeles at Denishawn and later opened her own studio. Michael Jackson was a singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer and actor. He was obviously known for his singing, but he was also known for his incredible dance moves. Beyonce is a phenomenal singer and of course she is an incredible dancer. She started in Destiny's Child and is now a soloist. All of her performances are unbelievable! Donnie Burns is a professional ballroom dancer, that specializes in Latin dance. He and his former partner Gaynor Fairweather were 14-time World Professional Latin champions. Brian Friedman is a dancer and choreographer. He has choreographed for Britney Spears, Cher, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey. At the age of 16 he has his own studio! Joaquin Cortes is a classically trained ballet and flamenco dancer. He was accepted as a member of Spain's prestigious national ballet company. Katherine Dunham was a dancer, choreographer, author, educator and social activist. She has had one of the most successful dance careers in the 20th century. She was sometimes known as the "matriarch and queen mother of black dance" Isadora Duncan was a an american dancer, but was banned from the United States because of her pro-soviet sympathies. Her family was poor so her and her sister gave dance lessons to local kids to earn extra money.She is also known as the "mother of modern dance" |
